Poll na Mìle Duirche
Poll na Mìle Duirche - 14th July 2009
Poll na Mìle Duirche is a swimmable pool in the Dé about half-way between Victoria Bridge and Inverey.
As a place name Poll na Mìle Duirche - means pool of the dark mile, the dark-mile being the heavily wooded stretch of road between Inverey, and Corriemulzie - less heavily wooded now than in the past, when it really would have been a very dark mile indeed.
Mealdarroch Cottage - Summer 1995
Colloquially Poll na Mìle Duirche is known as the Stuffer's Pool - a reference to John Lamont the estate taxidermist (colloquially the stuffer) for more than 50 years, who fished the pool, and lived in Mealdarroch Cottage (the cottage between the pool, and Inverey) until his death in 1922.
There's no 'official' parking at the pool, but a widened area of the road's shoulder has room for two cars, and the 'official' parking at Inverey is not far away.
