Gleann Dhé at White Bridge

Sketch map of the Cairngorms showing Gleann Dhé at White Bridge

  • Allt nan Leum Easain - means burn of waterfall leaps
  • Dail a’ Mhorair Mhòr  – means big haugh of the nobleman - the farm (ruins) taking its name from the 'biggest part' of the haugh on which it stands
  • Tom na Mòine – means hillock of the peat-moss - the farm (ruins) taking its name from the boggy flat between the hillocks and the river
  • Tòn na Gaoithe – means bottom of the wind - the farm (ruins) situation is exposed, and it’s likely ‘bottom’ is euphemistic, and really means arse of the wind
  • An Dubh-bhruach – means the black bank - the farm (ruins)
  • An t-Alltan Dearg - means the red burnie
  • Duncan Gray's Burn - no information
  • White Bridge - there's no evidence the name isn't literal, and as late as the early 20th century this bridge was painted white
